What Is It?
Vet Science Curriculum was created to facilitate 4-H youth in learning about the veterinary industry, while striving to receive their vet assistant certificate.
To receive your veterinary assistant certificate through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Veterinary Medicine, you must complete 100 lessons and 500 hours of apprenticeship. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the exam for certification through the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA).
What Do I Need To Start?
We ask that the youth be 12 age and above. This curriculum progressively matures and will be best for high school aged youth.
A small group of enthusiastic animal lovers! Most of our 4-Hers complete this curriculum in a group setting. Although it is possible to do these lessons and activities on your own, we all know learning is more effective and fun when you can do it with your friends!
An adult leader who will mentor and facilitate the learning process over the course of several years.
A 3-5 year commitment. On average, our groups have been completing the curriculum and vet hours in 4 years, although finishing earlier is certainly doable.
